Private Eye provides second opinion on Daily Express "reporting"
Submitted by Anonymous on 6 September, 2004 - 11:55pm.Whereas the Express described how Durham Police thwarted terrorists in a stolen car gathering information for a possible attack, the Eye reports differently.
"Let me say in the clearest possible language this story is rubbish and the Daily Express were told this in unequivocal language when the first asked us," said a Durham Police spokesman.
Interview with Naseh Ghafor - August 26 2004 - translated by Ahmed Salim
Submitted by Anonymous on 27 August, 2004 - 1:14am.Q. Why did you choose to go on a hunger strike ?
Naseh: I had no alternative. I preferred to die rather than stay in the UK with no job, housing, income and face deportation.
Q. Why did you leave Iraq ?
Naseh: My life was in danger. I was threatened by the authorities. My family were all killed.
Q. Why are you afraid to go back ?
Naseh: I am facing the same trouble my family was.
Q. The Home Office has said they will not send you back to Iraq until the situation stabilises.
Naseh: I don’t trust them. If I knew my life was safe I would go back voluntarily.

Naseh Ghafor Must Stay
Naseh's family were wiped out in northern Iraq. During the process of "Arabization", Naseh says his father was killed and his Mother and two sisters disappeared -presumed dead. Terrified, Naseh fled.
Naseh's asylum claim has been refused
He was evicted from his NASS accommodation, his financial support cut, and has no right to work - he was destitute and homeless, and subject to removal.
Confused and frightened
Frightened by a situation whereby he could be sent back to Iraq
Update - Tues 18th August
Submitted by Anonymous on 18 August, 2004 - 7:54am.Richard Caborn and the home office. He outlined their position trying
to make it sound generous. He can stay in this country for a long time
until the situation stabilises in Iraq - could be 1 - 2 years but who
can say ? He does not need to sign his deportation order. Everything
that can be done for Naseh has been done. All the channels of appeal
have been exhausted. The decision cannot be changed.
From Naseh's point of view nothing has changed. They refuse to put
anything in writing for him. They will not specify how long he can stay.
